“Is there time for one last quickie?!”

Danner Base is on the offensive as sacrifices and emotion runs high with an all out assault as a stunning turn of events concludes the high mecha action Godannar.

As things start to get intense in battle, the founder of Danner Base, Tatsuya Aoi, suddenly appears and the base transforms itself into a huge amphibious attack ship. Rather than letting the beast take the battle to them, the base takes the offensive as it plans to destroy their biggest enemy – the super hive mind mimetic beast.

Feeling that he must do something, Goh decides to go against orders and takes the Danner to do battle against the enemy, even though he knows that he might turn into something hideous due to the rabid syndrome. But just when Goh is about to attack the enemy, Ken makes his final sortie and interrupts the battle, and manages to expose the beast’s weak spot. However, the battle doesn’t stop there, as the battle of the heart between Mira and Anna for Goh’s love finally rises right in the middle of the conflict.

At the end, everyone realizes that no matter how much they’ve all endured from the attacks of the Mimetic Beast, the beast itself has become part of human evolution, and it is that same evolution that could reverse the condition that Goh has contracted from his exposure from the creatures.

One thing is for certain, Godannar took another 70s action style into account. Series like Combatler V, Voltes V, Daimos, and even the legendary Voltron from the 80s, all had one thing in common; they all have a flying transforming base or fortress to assist the robots fight their final battle. This trend goes all the way up to Macross/Robotech, Gravion and now Godannar.

Compared to the mecha stories in the 70’s, Godannar raises the bar and manages to balance the action with quick wit, perverted lines and fan service. It even throws in a quarrelling couple, and thus with all those facets, makes Godanner a mecha series to watch and enjoy
