One month after the amazing and perilous events that brought Kakeru and four psychics together a deadlier threat emerges, one that could be Kakeru! The second and penultimate volume in the trilogy begins with a dramatic and violent death within the police’s very own headquarters. It set an ominous edge tot the novel that is held throughout. While Kakeru tries to return to a normal like at school with his new psychic friends transferring there, he remains convinced that he is simply a regular guy. But that belief is what helps set a terrible string of events in motion in order to awaken Kakeru’s true power – as a Category Zero. For readers yearning to know, the answer is given here in the second volume as to what a Category Zero’s power really is. The trap is a subtle one. Kakeru settles down to normal life with his new friends even, perhaps, gaining a new love interest in the pretty Sayaka. However, his friends weren’t the only new transfer students to suddenly arrive at the school and even Hiyama is hiding secrets from him. Unbeknownst to Kakeru, several youths have gone missing lately, and the last one resulting in a death is leading the police straight to Kakeru’s door. Now a fugitive and with Greenhouse psychics after him, Kakeru is running for his life. Joi and the others race to get to him in time as Joi’s clairvoyance tells him that one of them will die if they don’t reach Kakeru in time. It will pit them against the most powerful psychic Ikushima has sent, a psychic so powerful he can wipe them all out – unless Kakeru awakens to his true power. It is a tense and invigorating novel, far darker and edgier then its predecessor. There is a lot of information her about the Farmers and what they are doing as well as the much anticipated revelation about Category Zero and what Kakeru’s frightening ability is.
