Vengeance gets tricky this volume, whether you’re a nasty skater, an even nastier stalker, or a two-faced best friend – Hell has some payback coming and it’s coming fast! Talk about getting your unholy righteousness on! Each of the stories has some of the vilest people you’ll ever meet. You’d dance on their grave if you could. And they always target the sweetest, nicest folk. First, a skater, who could rival Tanya Harding, manipulates two other rivals for a two-birds-with-one-stone plan to get rid of her competition. Then a girl comes home to out her little sister is being brutalized by the nanny. If all that wasn’t enough, a girl visiting her sick boyfriend has a deadly stalker on her tail and a supposed best friend that will step on anyone for the sake of popularity. Each of the villains deserve what’s coming to them. But these poor victimized survivors get damned to an element of Hell, too! What a raw deal! It’s so harsh. Hell Girl keeps saying that to get vengeance is to dig two graves. In other words, you can’t make the bad guys pay the price without paying yourself. If I were mature, I’d be all understanding and sagely say that it is only right that anyone agrees to take the life of another must pay for such a grave sin with their own soul. But screw it. I’m not that mature and these characters are brutalized by these scum. It would be great to see someone get away with it someday. The story that choked me up the most was the one with the two girls and the nasty teacher. These two different girls form a moving friendship that cat murdering, girl abusing piece of trash gets a reckoning. The friendship got to my cynical self and a tear may have been shed at the end.
IN SUMMARY:
Vengeance is never pretty in Hell Girl! Expect to be thrilled and chilled in this stunning manga.
