Shiori’s plight tears at Yuichi’s heart, especially when he learns the truth about her life. Sadly this is yet another step in the growing heartbreak within Kanon. With her birthday fast approaching Yuichi wants to make it one for the books. Upon figuring out Shiori’s wish and the reason for her waiting in the cold courtyard day after day, Yuichi is determined to fulfill her heart’s desire. First though, he’ll have to get past the wall Kaori has so diligently erected. He must tear down those walls in the hopes of healing both girls the only way he can. Even then, it won’t be enough to stop time and the tragedy it promises. In the aftermath of Shiori and Kaori’s story, Aiyu and Yuichi’s begins. Grief stricken he finds comfort in Aiyu’s arms. With her he starts to remember bits of his forgotten past and the two grow closer. A child’s promise becomes a moment of revelation between two teens. But secrets still abound and in this penultimate volume of the TV series, Yuichi is about to suffer the greatest shock to his wounded heart so far. Right from the opening sequence at the start of the show, it is clean Aiyu is the main girl in Yuichi’s life. However when the two finally become a couple in this volume, it simply doesn’t work. Aiyu comes across as too childish in demeanour to be taken seriously let alone romantically. She seems like a sweet and adorable younger sister for Yuichi. But with the shock and mystery of the penultimate volume what has yet to be revealed could change everything.
