SYNPOSIS:
The samuri didn’t stand a chance.  First, the aliens invaded Japan.  Next, they took all the jobs.  And then they confiscated everyone’s sword.  So what does a hotheaded former samuri like Sakata “Gin” Gintoki do to make ends meet?  Take any odd job that comes his way, even if it means losing his dignity.

REVIEW:
Set in a sci-fi version of feudal Japan in the city of Edo, this comedic and quirky manga centers on an alien invasion and the disbanding of the samuri system.  The three main characters, Sakata Gintoki (aka Gin), Shinpachi Shimura (his part-time assistant), and Kagura (a very powerful alien) have to take any job that comes along to pay the rent.

In this volume, Gin gets amnesia from a severe bump on the head and forgets everything, including his personality.  Kagura and Shinpachi try everything to jog Gin’s memory but nothing works.  Meanwhile, the chief of Shinengumi Soldiers, Kondo, gets hit on the head while hitting on Shinpachi’s sister, Otae.  He also gets amnesia.  Both he and Gin end up working in the same factory.  After a very intense fight over the destruction of Edo, Gin and Kondo get their memories back.

In a side story, Kotaro, an exclusionist rebel, gets recognized and chased by the Shinengumi Soldiers.  He hides in a ramen shop in which the owner is being shaken down by fake rebels.  The fakes kidnap the owner, but Kotaro chases them down and saves the owner.

After all that, Kagura’s father shows up chasing down a very dangerous alien.  He also wants to take her home, and of course she doesn’t want to go.  Will he force her or not?

IN SUMMARY:
Comedy and quirkyness abound in this volume.  Let the games begin!
