Megaman has been around for a long time; longer than the target audience for this show has been alive for the most part. Starting out as a video game character, mega-man has gone on to become an animated character in various anime devoted to the concept, and even has a variety of collectable merchandise and manga to his name. Megaman NT Warrior is the latest rendition, with volume thirteen being the most recent disc released. NT Warrior stays true to some of the original concepts, but certainly takes Megaman in a very different direction than he ever has before. NT Warrior is a lot more “kid oriented” than previous renditions in the series. This anime has a lot of the same repetition, and noticeable plot direction that other children’s shows like Pokemon contain. It is made very obvious within minutes of watching that the show was fully intended for a young audience. It is simplistic, goofy, and rarely makes much sense. An older audience might find themselves rolling their eyes, but to anyone 12 and under, the show could be very entertaining – it will be appreciated by the right audience. The animation is colorful, and the show is fast paced. It rarely slows down to explain itself, and sometimes that’s just what kids need – something that keeps moving. Its got action, friendships, rivalry, and a certain level of that “collectibility factor” that helped to make Pokemon so popular. It’s nothing ground breaking – but kids don’t tend to need something to be totally unique to have fun with it. With that said, on to the events of volume thirteen: The disc starts off with “Chess Mess!” an episode that centers on a new form of contest called a NetChess Battle. Megaman and Roll take on Kingman for first prize, but will they checkmate or will they simply checkout? Next in “The Incredible Rush!”, it’s a feline frenzy when a cat virus turns the CyberWorld into a total catastrophe. With everyone turning into cats, what is Megaman to do? The third episode is “The NetBattle of Hearts!” where all is fair in love and war. Higsby faces Commander Beef for the ultimate prize – Ms. Mari herself. The final episode on the disc is “From Here to Revolutionary PETS!” and seems somewhat of a parody of Power Rangers. When it comes to creating a revolutionary new chip, only ProtoMan can finish the job and get it done right. What will this new chip mean for Megaman? We won’t spoil it for you. EXTRAS: The disc extras include a Spanish language track, as well as video game and manga previews. IN SUMMARY: Megaman NT Warrior will appeal and entertain to whom it is made for. |
