Ash may think he’s seen everything when it comes to Pokemon, but is he ready to face the mysterious Darkrai in his latest awesome adventure? This manga is actually based on the Pokemon movie of the same name and is an excellent addition to any Pokemon fan’s library. The art is awesome, as it comes from artist Ryo Takamisaki. Ryo grew up in Ibaragi watching combat sports and participating in motor sports. His previous works include volumes for such series as King of Fighters G, Megaman NT Warrior, and Godzilla vs. Megaguirus. Ryo Takamisaki had this to say about his latest work within this very manga: “I’ve got a weakness for hard-shelled softies, so Darkrai really got to me. Just imagining it battling all alone to answer the prayers of the little girl who was kind to it is enough to make me tear up… and so, that’s why Darkrai has become my favourite Pokemon.”

As for the plotline of this Pokemon adventure, it starts off with Ash and his travelling companions coming across an amazing town in the middle of nowhere. On their way to participate in the next Pokémon contest, Ash, Brock, and Dawn come to Álamos Town, known for its beautiful gardens and the impressive Space-time Tower, built by the famous architect Gowdy. After mysterious swathes of destruction begin to appear and an ominous fog envelops the town - preventing the people from leaving - Tonio, Gowdy's grandson, recognizes these phenomena as having been predictions in his grandfather's diary - predictions that the integrity of space and time are under threat from a battle between the legendary Pokémon Diagla and Darkrai. Will Ash and his friends be able to save Álamos Town? If we know Ash and the gang, there isn’t any problem they can’t solve with a little heart and courage!

As in most Pokemon related manga, the action is fast and furious and the plot is well-paced so that the attention of the reader is easily kept. The art is a lot of fun and very well-crafted. The scenery, characters, and their Pokemon are all really nice to look at and help to bring this fantasy world to life. The physical product itself has a very bright cover that should attract any Pokemon fan in a flash as it has Ash and Pikachu hanging out on the front. If kids have seen the movie, it would be great for them to also want to read the book, or vice versa. Any Pokemon fan would enjoy this latest installment from the series, as it’s chockfull of the best and newest Pokemon incarnations!

IN SUMMARY:
Pokemon fans will be very pleased that The Rise of Darkrai is available to them in Manga format. This book is a great way to get new fans on board with all the action, or to satisfy those who are already engrossed in the world of Pokemon. It’s an action-filled blast from start to finish!
