The much-anticipated sequel to Kamichama Karin has finally arrived! It’s more magical-girl adventure with sweet Karin, fool for love by day, goddess battling for peace by night. So much happened in the first series that it might seem overwhelming for new readers, but no worries, there’s a relationship chart and brief synopsis at the start of Chu. It makes for a great jumping on point for new readers of the shoujo adventure. Here’s the low-down: Karin is a reincarnation of the goddess of love Aphrodite. She hooked up with Kazune who she’s madly in love with, and found out he’s the god Uranus (aka Zeus) and that they were married in their other life, including having children. In Chu, the two lovebirds are living chastely together (stealing a kiss or two) and their quiet happily ever after gets a shake up when Karin is called upon to find the three gods who are needed to defeat the ominous sounding Seeds of Chaos! No sooner is she charged with this quest than a pint-sized cutey little boy pops into their lives. His name’s Suzune and he says he’s their son! Along with that shock he has a gift, a heart-shaped Chronos clock to help Karin find the three gods. Hot on the heels of this surprise, the clock shows her who might be the second god and it’s the dreamy idol Jin! He’s arrogant and oh-so-cool and he has his heart and ego set on making Karin his! Could this guy really be the god Hades? If so, Kazune might be in trouble! As if that weren’t enough, the third god appears and Kazune decides to go to England. Could this divine couple be calling it quits? Are three gods too much in this kitchen? Manga extras include a bonus fan art gallery, translation notes, and the adorable Three Kitty Gods comic panels.
IN SUMMARY: It’s three times the romantic rivals, three times the adventure and three times the charm in Kamichama Karin Chu! It’s a cross between Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura with cuteness magnified. |
