Welcome to a new manga series with more than one trick up its sleeve.  Kohei is a talented special effects makeup artist, an unrepentant lecher and the main man of Studio Gimmick, the place to go when you need help that goes above and beyond!

He’s bossed around by the owner, Ms. Shiho, and he may drool after the ladies, but when it comes to the job, he’s the MacGyver, of SFX.  With the aid of Kannazuki, stuntman and Johnny-on-the-spot, they help save reputations, dreams and even lives with their skills.

The first volume is packed with great stories.  It’s one amazing job after another.  First is the story of a sweet young star who is being brutally used and abused by her slime-ball manager.  It’s up to Kohei, his legendary silver spatula and his skills (plus his warped sense of humor) to help save this girl from the king of sleaze.  Then, zombies and explosives make for undead combustion when a job at a theme park leaves the former SFX worker madder than a stick of dynamite!  Next, a beautiful star needs help from Kohei.  An awful accident left her body scarred and the paparazzi along with a jealous and underhanded co-star are looking for the opportunity to exploit her tragedy.  Skuzzy people are everywhere but Kohei has more tricks up his sleeve than the villains can count.  But the final story might see some baddies a step ahead of him.  An alien, a hoax and massive thefts see the members of Studio Gimmick wanted for robbery and one of them shot!  It’s a doozey of a cliffhanger for the exciting first volume.

The art rocks.  There’s a full color cover page and the character designs are solid.  All the FSX gimmicks and action kick @ss.  There’s also an SFX anecdote at the end of the manga.

IN SUMMARY:
Gimmick is a manga with endless tricks up its sleeve.  MacGyver fans check this out!  It’s hip, fast-paced and totally innovative!
