People are trying to steal both boy Haruki and girl-type when he switches into a girl at night in the latest misadventures and romantic bundle of fun in Kedamono Damono. Find out what happens when an amoral young man discovers Haruki’s secret and uses it to steal Konatsu away from the man (and girl) she loves! Then discover what occurs when Haruki’s condition proves contagious and Konatsu turns into a boy! Time at the beach should be the perfect romantic getaway for these two. But it only spells trouble when Jun finds out Haruki turns into a girl at night and he uses that knowledge to blackmail them into letting him go out with Konatsu. Jun really knows how to manipulate people. He twists the knife regarding Haruki’s situation, telling the gender transforming boy that Konatsu could never have a real relationship with Haruki due to his condition. Jun’s meeting with Konatsu’s parents is the topping to that unpleasant cake of supposed reality. Believing Jun, Haruki begins to doubt his right to be with Konatsu. He cares for her and wants her to be happy. Is his being with her standing in her way of happiness? Is what he wonders. Haruki debates on distancing himself from Konatsu for her own good, leaving him dejected. But Konatsu weighs in with her own perspective of what happiness is and that so-called “normal” doesn’t always tip those scales in any way for her. Surprisingly her little brother ha a few choice words for Haruki as well that is a touching moment for Haruki. Summer break ends and its back to school. Yet trouble has followed them when Jun transfers to their school and plans more mischief, seeding greater doubt in Haruki. And the modeling job proves to be an opportunity for Jun to make more moves on Konatsu. But someone is making their own moves on boy-type Haruki. The school nurse has her eye on Haruki and Konatsu’s own insecurities get pushed over the edge because of it. However the big test of their relationship happens when Haruki’s gender switching condition appears contagious when at night it’s Konatsu who turns into a boy! She has the same over-sexed hormones as his girl counterpart. But when boy-type Konatsu makes the moves on her “girlfriend”, over-sexed girl-type Haruki freaks out. It seems when the shoe is on the other foot Haruki is thrown off and doesn’t know how to act. It’s love defying gender boundaries more than ever before in the latest volume of this superb romantic romp. The latest volume even has a ghost story that may see Haruki and Konatsu take their relationship to the next level. Often racy, the manga manages in a comedic way to defy gender and societal expectations when it comes to romantic relationships. It’s fantastic to see this manga series continue as it is a personal favorite and one of the top romantic comedies in manga. It has some risqué fan service and a charming romance filled with comical mishaps.
IN SUMMARY:
It’s a gender bender romantic comedy with more than one zany twist! Comically pushes boundaries and widens the landscape of the heart. Fans of gender-bending comedies like Ranma ½ will love Kedamono Damono.
