Planet Arus is being invaded by king Zarkon's evil robots - but help is at hand in the form of sentai team of the Galaxy Alliance, comprising of Sven, Kieth, Lance, Pidge and Hunk who have amazing powers and skills. They are in search of the mighty Voltron, the best in the universe, but on their way they travel in their trademark lion robots, encountering plenty of menace and destruction in their path.

Trying to save those who have been enslaved on Planet Arus by Zarkon they are captured by the enemy and brought to Zarkon's dungeons especially.  Castle Doom is no place for good men to be, and the king basks in his glory at having defeated all the inhabitants of Planet Arus and making them his slaves.

After this victory, it becomes apparent that Zarkon's intention is to eventually rule the universe and with the capture of the five explorers, he thinks he has no cause to fear the Galaxy Alliance at all - but he would be wrong in that assumption. Though Zarkon knows of the secret of Voltron, Sven and the others must hope that they do not find out where it is too soon, as time might not be on their side.

A mid 1980's classic, Voltron is one of the most popular animated series ever, ranked alongside other successful series like Battle of the Planets and old hit Transformers.
The use of the lion robots will remind the viewer of that other classic Thundercats.

Voltron comes as part of a three disc DVD, as a limited edition in an embossed steel book containing the first 15 episodes.

This series though has been modified to bring its look up to modern standards, including painstaking colour correction, new film transfers and re-editing of the original series episodes as guidance to make them as enjoyable as possible. For those who do remember the old anime series, this will be something to take them back to their childhood, or for those of the younger generation this will show them how much fun was to be had watching the series.

EXTRAS:
Voltron: Defenders of the Universe Collection: 1 Blue Lion contains bonus features such as Original Trailer, Merchandise Footage, Archive Footage, Production Sketches and Character Profiles.

IN SUMMARY:
Voltron is retro anime excellently brought up to modern specs - brilliant!
