Mercurio’s problem is one that will set into motion events that will hit too close to home for Haruhiko in the latest exciting installment of Enchanter. Haruhiko doesn’t know the extent of Mercurio’s plight and her time is running out. He nevertheless feels driven to help the distraught demon girl. However, in his training and personal search to find a way to communicate with Fulcanelli, he discovers he may have damaged the demon stone containing Fulcanelli’s soul! Should Eukanaria find out…

Not wanting to upset Eukanaria, Haruhiko does the wrong thing for the right reasons. But his biggest test will come in this volume when he discovers the truth behind Mercurio’s condition. It will bring to bear his own dilemma with Eukanaria and Fulcanelli’s soul. How can anyone choose which soul most deserves to live and the other fade to nothingness? Who can judge?  These are the questions Haruhiko must find answers too if he is ever to find any measure of peace, let alone offer any to Eukanaria.

This is the most dramatic volume of Enchanter so far and the most suspenseful.  It ends on a cliffhanger between Eukanaria battling the other Mercurio and Haruhiko struggling with what to do and who exactly to help. As seen over the course of this volume, his feelings towards Eukanaria have changed, becoming more sympathetic, a stronger desire to protect her and a deeper attachment at the core of their interactions. They mask things with banter and baiting each other but in truth, it seems they are both troubled by the thought of either of them being unhappy. She’s always wanted to be reunited with her love Fulcanelli by taking over Haruhiko’s body, but it may be that she doesn’t feel that clear cut about things anymore. And while that used to strike fear in Haruhiko’s heart about the thought of losing his soul so that another could inhabit his body, he now seems to be wavering due to his as yet unnamed feelings toward Eukanaria.  Is he still in love with his teacher or has the pendulum swung to her look-a-like, Eukanaria? This volume raise some hard questions and will leave fans waiting with baited breath for the answers.

IN SUMMARY:
Drama and suspense hit a high note when Haruhiko must answer the questions that could seal his fate and others, while Eukanaria battles a powerful Mercurio.  There’s a lot more than gorgeous art and great action in the latest volume of Enchanter.
