During their battle with Darkray, the lord of the Underworld and his Death Angels, Kurohime and Zero are faced with the last thing either could have expected – the Goddess of Benevolence Shirohime, Kurohime’s divine other half!

The whole first arc comes to a shocking finale in this volume. At last, readers learn the full origin of Kurohime and what happened when she challenged the gods and the true reason why.  It’s a moving story that shows that for some evil deeds there is truly a line of goodness to be found and how even the best of intentions can become warped with hatred.  But that’s not even the biggest shock in this volume. They continue to fight Darkray and with astonishing results. When something happens, Kurohime is at last restored. Able to love and at full strength she confronts the gods, but this time she fights them to save Zero’s life. The gods mock love, but for her and Zero it is their greatest strength.

The aftermath of the fight leads to one of the most emotional sequences in the series so far. To save Kurohime life, Zero must push her upon the boat along the Sanzu River. The river’s water eats away all things living. For Zero to do so will mean his painful, agonizing and horrific death. Could anyone sustain such a sacrifice for the one they love? It sets the end of the first arc and the stage for the new direction the manga takes in this most pivotal volume.

This is an action series that isn’t afraid to take chances with its story telling and risk a lot to gain an impressive emotional impact to the story and make it that much more involving for the reader. It’s strong, gutsy story writing with striking art and even more stunning plot twists.

IN SUMMARY:
The first arc to the story comes to a shocking finale that sets the remaining characters off in a completely different direction! Kurohime is a fast-paced action laden manga that’s a thrill a minute! This is a pivotal volume readers can’t afford to miss!
