The second volume takes a step back and tones down the zany comedy just a touch to provide some pangs of the heart as the various girls in Rin’s life are focused on.

First is Kaede, that sweet girl who takes such good care of Rin. When she falls ill, everyone is there to help but she tries to refuse it. It only upsets her more. There’s something eating away at her ever since all these new girls have entered Rin’s life and it’s up to Rin to help her find the place where she belongs. The episode also reveals more about the tragedy that binds her and Rin together, tugging at the heart all the more.

What follows is a closer look at quiet girl Rimu who has been living with Rin and Kaede. The quiet demon girl has been sad and lonely and tries to reach out in her own distinct way. Rin sees into the heart of the matter the way only he seems to while the girls take it in a completely different direction. On one hand, Rin’s help with the cat toy and Rimu’s plight are quite moving and bittersweet. On the other hand there’s that special racy comedy that hits high gear with the girls when they take Rimu out lingerie shopping when she needs a bra. That part was wrong and funny all at once with plenty of fan service for the viewers and lots of laughs at Rin’s expense.  Despite the comedy, there is a particularly sweet ending to this episode that is well worth waiting for.

Next, Aya takes center stage when one of the most popular guys in school asks her out. She’s having a hard time figuring out what to say to him, and recall this is Aya, a girl who is never at a loss for words.  Rin ends up at her place, the two are alone, and something could happen. The episode serves as a reminder that at that age, there’s no need to rush oneself into anything. It’s important to enjoy one’s youth and treasure those precious feelings.

The last episode hits summer vacation time and this time Sia, the goddess and heir to the throne, manages to get Rin to go out with her…on a date! She has her perfect date planned to the last detail and has filled in every second. But things keep going awry and they keep running into various people they know. Can her lucky panties save the day? She seems to think so. But again it’s Rin who has his own special way of reassuring the girls in his life just when they need it the most.
