To clarify things right away, this is not the next volume of the manga series. The story concluded in volume 12. Rather 13 is a guidebook and inside look at the manga and it’s many secrets. It’s not only the ultimate guidebook for Death Note fans, it’s a must have as it holds original four-panel Death Note comics and an all new original Death Note story. It’s a thick and well organized profound look at the creation of the manga sensation. There are complete character biographies, all kinds of quotes, sketches and excerpt from the manga series, storyline summaries, numerous production notes, and much, much more. It has in depth interviews with Takeshi Obata (artist) and Tsugumi Ohba (writer), including commentaries throughout the book. The guidebook covers the origins of all 108 chapters of the manga and a special look at the final chapter. There is a special chapter that holds the 13 truths about the conclusion of the astonishing series, another where the creators answer specific questions, and a whole chapter devoted to Ryuk and the Death Note itself, covering various rules and tricks revealed throughout the series. Any of these aspects, whether it be the exclusive comic panels and story, the intricate look at the fascinating series, or the reveals this book holds, are reason enough for Death Note fans to want to get their hands on this special volume 13. But it also has a full color cover page and a special “Death Note: True Name Card” for L on the inside cover. All together, it makes for an irresistible collector’s item.
