Award Winner Anime Director Makota Shinkai will have his first official book release by Kodansha on April 25, 2008. The book titled, Makoto Shinkai Bijutsu Gashuu: Sora no Kioku (Makoto Shinkai’s Art Book: The Sky for the Longing of Memorys – English title), will include background paintings from Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Day, 5 Centimeters Per Second, and including the art used for the Shinano Daily Newspaper television commercial.

Images used in the book are taken directly from the original films without any editing as much as possible. The book will include interviews with Director Makoto Shinkai and ten of his staff about the production environment and visualization techniques.

The book contains 427 pages and will sell for ¥2800.
