The story takes us back to middle school and how Suoh first met the twins and engaged them into the Host Club. This turns out to be not a comedic story but rather a complex psychological one with the twins’ psychology explored in depth. Their desire to be a set, one, yet apart, distinct, yet inseparable is a conundrum, but one Suoh is intent on overcoming. It ends in an impossible challenge to Suoh to a game no one has won: be able to tell the two apart or lose forever!

The exploration of the relationship and life of the twins Hikaru and Kaoru is compelling. The manga does return to more madcap antics when in present day, they’re doing a pirate theme at the club. It’s costumes and role-playing galore for the eccentric members of the Host Club. They are graced with a new foreign exchange student, a real live princess named Princess Michelle. But she’s hiding a secret! Tamaki Suoh immediately devotes himself to be her servant, even to the extent of giving her a welcoming parade with elephants! Rumors run amuck that they might be related. When the truth gets out (always stranger than fiction in this series), it shows Suoh’s tender side and his powers of observation. This unique perceptiveness is what makes his blockheadedness about his true feelings for Haruhi so funny. After they share a bonding moment over lost mothers they are trying to find, he has the strange urge to kiss Haruhi! In a hilarious turn of events, he’s tormented as he struggles to understand the obvious. It’s a riot. He catches a fever, he’s so overcome and stressed by it all. During that time his father makes an interesting bedside confession (that Tamaki won’t recall) and he might just kiss Haruhi (which he also might not recall if he actually does it).

Things only start to settle down when the club decides on a covert mission to fix up Haruhi’s modest apartment, the way only the Host Club can as they dare to care too much. This is an uproarious chapter showing just how out of touch these characters are which is what makes this series so much fun to begin with.

Then in Love Egoist, reads are treated to a bonus story about the romance between Takami, an aspiring teacher, and Satsuki who despises irresponsible people and dreams of running her family’s modest restaurant. True love finds its proof is in the pudding in this story. Extras this manga include more Egoistic Club comic panels.

IN SUMMARY:
The twins’ past is revealed and Tamaki is faced with a romantic conundrum in the latest zany adventures of the eccentric Ouran Host Club.
