Virus activity has quieted down, but it’s only the calm before the storm that will signal the end of Venus Versus Virus in this final volume of the series.

The down time gives Sumire a false sense of hope as she begins to return Yoshiki’s affections and spend time again with her friends. She plans a celebration for her birthday which she shares with Lucia. But she ends up crestfallen at Lucia’s rejection, only feeling worse when she learns why – it also was the day Lucia’s mother Lilith died. There’s more to this tragedy and it will unfold in bloody stages during these final episodes. Friends, enemies, the lines blur as betrayal and horrific tragedy strike out at both Lucia and Sumire as Lucif unfolds his dastardly and maniacal plans. He will do anything to gain the fragments within them both, even if that means sacrificing his daughter and the soul of his wife. At last Lucia learns the truth behind her mother’s death. Sumire is the key to the downfall of humanity and Lucia is the only one who can stop her. Faced with such a despairing choice, what will she choose?

Tremendously dramatic and suspenseful, this anime had me hooked from the beginning and never let up. Sadly I wish I could say that remained true to the very end but unfortunately no. It had so much build up and then the end is so abrupt that it yanked me right out of the moment. Anime often likes to be somewhat open ended leaving certain things open to interpretation, but this had too many loose ends and the conclusion itself left this viewer wanting and wanting hard.  The final confrontation was stupendous, emotional, and riveting. Then the end itself didn’t quite finish. It leaves you at a moment that is too inconclusive, too open to interpretation. I fear it will disappoint other Venus Versus Virus fans. But what a ride until then. The show has amazing resonance and many compelling angles to the story and the characters. If you can tough out the final moments and what the conclusion lacks, the series is amazing.

IN SUMMARY:
In the final volume an abrupt ending but an amazing overall series await.
