The penultimate volume catapults a confrontation between Honoka and one of the Third. Honoka gets a new contract and is hired by…the Third. The elite, mysterious and powerful group who rules the world with their third red astral eye need Honoka. The reason is one that Honoka feels she cannot refuse – to rescue Joganki. A rogue Third has gained control over the ultimate weapon, the wormhole driver. With it, rogue Rona Fauna could destroy the world. She has Joganki in her hands but her ultimate goal may be far more human than anyone could guess and far more dangerous.
On this difficult mission, Honoka is joined by sly and alluring sharpshooter Paife as well as Iks. Another new member joins them as part of the Third’s conditions and it is none other than Blue Breaker, the automail robot that murdered Honoka’s beloved friend Zankan. With the world’s fate in her hands, Honoka only knows that she is doing this to save a friend. But when she and Blue Breaker are separated from the others during an aerial assault, she must face not only the enemy that lies ahead, but the one at her side. Meanwhile Paife and Iks face deadly combat in which one may fall. And Bogie must fight the Tank Killer, another AI like himself that was created for the sole purpose of destroying AI terrain vehicles just like Bogie. Tense and suspenseful, things really heat up this volume. The drama of Blue Breaker re-entering the picture makes him a wild card in the deck. The rogue Third is an intriguing character and we learn more about Joganki in these episodes during their interactions. There are numerous stellar combat scenes. One of the most visually surprising was the combat between Bogie and the Tank Killer. The moves Bogie manages are stupefying. The hand-to-hand combat between Paife and the Third is another stand out moment for its drama and great suspenseful imagery. Another aspect that is intriguing is the animation of how the Third’s astral eye works. Viewers are given an animated process of what it does for the first time. EXTRAS: Bonus features include reversible cover art, clean closing animation 1 and 2, trailers of other titles, character bios that include Japanese commentary with English subtitles, and a 12-page booklet made with thick card stock in full color featuring episode summaries and artwork. IN SUMMARY: The penultimate volume sees Honoka going up against a rogue member of the Third, her friends in danger, and the fate of the world unknowingly rests in her hands!
