Trying to get into Academy life, the Prince of Tennis comes face to face with Kaori Kaido of the 8th grade teams who Takeshi warns him about. He was well known to the players who have competed with him as "snake" as he uses fast moves, and uses a snake technique to wear out his opponents.
While Ryoma and Kaoru sweat it out together, Sumire Ryuzaki the coach gets a call from Mamoru Inoue, Editor of Pro Tennis Monthly who has been covering the junior high's practise games and wants to catch the latest games, and also hopes to discover the next great player, but there is one he remembers watching many years ago and he is Nanjiro Echizen, who was called “Samurai.” He remembers seeing him play most of all, and if it was not for his injury later on, he felt he would have been top ranking within a year or more, he was that good a player.Mamoru recalls his intense effort when playing against an opponent, and thinks it would be hard to find a player as great as he was. After already beating his previous opponent, Ryoma is faced with Sadanari Inui, who so far has studied all his moves and can calculate them all with extreme precision, ensuring he will win against him. Knowing he will have to be at his best up against his fierce rival, he will have to use all his skills to beat him if he wants to be the best. As the story hots up in this second volume, Ryoma feels he must live up to his father’s great standards and prove himself on the battlefield of his choice, the tennis court. He must make sure he is not too predictable but not get too cocky for his own good. Dramatic, energetic and very instructive, The Prince of Tennis will have all the excitement fans will need, as there are also guidelines on the tennis players’ moves readers will find extremely useful if they have an interest in the game too.
