Only one day in the Special Zone and already Jiro and his brother Kotaro are having the boots put to them. With Mimiko trying to help, they go in search of sanctuary in one of the many vampire Houses, but none will open their doors to the vampire known as the Silver Blade. Ambushes, secret allegiances, and all the wrong people come knocking for Jiro’s attention in this volume of Black Blood Brothers.
A lot happens in each and every episode of this action series. A nefarious Coven of vampires wants Jiro. And they don’t take his rejection well. But more is going on than meets the eye. Just why won’t the Houses open their doors to Jiro? And what does Crimson-Eyed Zelman have in store for him? There are many aspects about life in the Special Zone revealed in this volume, and darker undercurrents are strongly hinted at. A Kowloon child has shown up in the Zone and Cassa too. When Mimiko pays the price for letting Jiro stay with her and Kotaro is used as a pawn against him, just what will Jiro do? Adversity is everywhere. The Company, the Houses, and powerful individuals all have their own agenda and are attempting to use Jiro for their own purposes and in their own way. The life of his brother, their friend Mimiko, his duty as a vampire, his cursed past with Cassa and the Kowloon are all coming to bear and the peace of the Special Zone hangs in the balance. Jiro is under a lot of pressure and viewers are treated to a good deal of vampire and sword action. There is also more with the Coven and the evil of their victimizing women. It again showcases the sexual nature of the vampiric bite. With all the competing agendas and different players, it will be interesting to see how the anime manages to conclude it all in the upcoming final volume considering this is a three volume series. Despite the more dramatic content of action and vampire lusts, the show manages to make room for quite a bit of entertaining comedy regarding Jiro and Kotaro staying with Mimiko. The teasing and banter (and bouts of humorous violence) between Jiro and Mimiko is a fun lighter side that helps balance the series out nicely. The show has new intrigue that unfolds. Not only do the different factions in power seem to have hidden agendas regarding the Special Zone, there appears to be an Eleventh Yard, a district no one has ever seen yet something of great value is hidden there. Now all sides seem to be converging on this one secret place with everything hanging in the balance.
