SYNOPSIS: In a land far from their own, a band of adventurers stumble into a prophecy and must once again save the world…but at what price? Meet Lina Inverse, a spunky sorceress with a penchant for fire, who enjoys nothing more than liberating the unearned from those less deserving. Teamed up with her no-so-heroic group of friends, this seeker of fame and fortune finds herself the unlikely savior of a story long foretold. To defeat the coming darkness, sacrifice will be asked of them all…And how does one balance the worth of two worlds, when one must be saved at the cost of the other?
Contains the entire third season, 26 episodes, on 4 discs. REVIEW: The third and final season the TV series meets with more action and drama than ever before. With Lord Gaav defeated, Lina has unwittingly unsealed the barrier which prevented travel to the outer world. Now off on an adventure like no other, Lina along with Gourry, Amelia, and Zelgadis, will embark on an escapade that will take them not only beyond their known shores, but discovering other worlds besides their own – and with them, danger. A prophecy foretelling the doom of all sees Lina and her group searching for the weapons needed to stop the Outerworld Dark Lord Darkstar. They already have more than they know, but with that comes outer world adversaries with amazing powers who want the weapons for their own purpose. There’s also a reunion with Xellos that can spell nothing but trouble for Lina and her friends. Joining them is a beautiful priestess named Filia who has powers and a secret of her own. Dragon wars, outer world enemies, and betrayal from within…what more could any perilous adventure full of action and magic – let lone mayhem! - ask for? The show builds to a climatic race for the final weapon, a battle to destroy Darkstar, and the discovery of an ancient tragedy relating to the dragon races. There are many various enemies during the show but the most prominent is Valgaav, a lone survivor of the ancient dragons who holds a bitter grudge against Filia’s people. He has his own reasons for wanting the weapons and you can be that none of them are good. He makes a compelling tragic villain in this season. Xellos’ appearance always brings with it a bevy of intrigue. You can never tell which way he’s going to jump until after he’s revealed his true agenda and even then he could still be tricking you. This season also reveals quite a bit about the true nature and destiny of Gourry’s Sword of Light and serves as a bridge between this anime and that of Lost Universe where the sword reappears. Unlikely alliances form, and the final battle will see Lina mixing magic in some amazing ways for even more visually stupendous results. The re-mastered animation is beautifully crisp. It shows Slayers in all its vibrant glory to be experienced the way it was meant to be. The designs for the outer worlders are different than the norm as the fantasy show traffics a little bit into science fiction territory as the ‘outer world’ is really ‘outer space’. It makes the weapons also more otherworldly and somewhat sci-fi like. Slayers throughout has maintained a standard of truly engaging and catchy theme songs and the third season keeps that up. There is a certain flair to Slayers’ themes that makes them identifiable in their delivery as a Slayers song. If you’re also a big fan of the music hold out to the very last episode when the show offers a special ballad to bring a loving close to the series. EXTRAS: Bonus features include trailers of other FUNimation titles along with clean opening and ending animation. IN SUMMARY: Dragon wars and outer world enemies converge to either stop or fulfill a prophecy of doom and Lina is the only hope the world has! It’s all out magical battles and high adventure in the final season of The Slayers.
