Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura appoints Doraemon as the Japanese Cartoon Ambassador of Japan. The move is part of Japan’s recent effort to harness the power of pop culture in diplomacy and to promote anime abroad. The ministry plans to screen Doreamon movies outside of Japan at other Japanese diplomatic missions around the world.
