Have you been jonesin’ for a deep supernatural thriller? Wanting to see some hack and slash with some vampires gone wild? The wait is over! Blood+ takes the vampire character from Blood The Last Vampire movie and sets her years later, with no memory, thinking she’s human, and all Hell is about to break loose in her very own TV series!
The first five eps in this swanky DVD shows a very different Saya than the cold sword wielding vamp-babe from the movie. Now she’s just a regular school girl – at least that’s what she thinks. She lives with an adoptive family, solid father-type named George, a mouthy brother Kai and little whiny guy named Riku. All’s well with her world, but not for long. Huge bat-like monsters attack and the next thing Saya knows before she thinks she’s going to meet her maker is that a good looking guy gives her a kiss lined with blood. Suddenly she’s got glowing red eyes and grabs the sword he gives her and then the body pile starts! After that, Saya’s whole world is thrown to the wolves. A secret military organization owns her and now that she’s partially awakened, they’re calling payment due. But she’s not willing to give up her humanity or her human family and they feel the same way. Too bad for her and them that it seems to be her presence that’s drawing all the monsters to her like moths to a flame. And the more her family clings, the more likely they’re going to get burned too! It’s not the same intense action as the short film but a lot of the same crew from the movie are behind the TV show. The production is done by Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell) and Aniplex and anime credentials don’t get better than that. The whole anime has this dry, mysterious atmosphere and intense but more on the thinking side, along the lines of Witch Hunter Robin. There is action and when the action happens, body parts fly and the blood hits the fan. EXTRAS: No extra features. IN SUMMARY: Blood+ is a TV show that fans of Witch Hunter Robin ad Ghost in the Shell will be climbing over each other to watch. It’s dry and atmospheric. Blood+ is anime horror done with style and intelligence. |
