UK's MVM Entertainment announces that it will rerlease the complete Paranoia Agent on DVD in April 7, 2008
Those of you unfortunate enough to have missed out on Satoshi Kon's awesome anime series PARANOIA AGENT when it was first released on DVD (and subsequently screened at the Barbican Cinema in London) will get another chance to find out what all the fuss was about when MVM reissues the entire series as a special thin-pack DVD boxed set in April.
Utilising superb animation production by Madhouse (Animatrix; Metropolis) and imaginative character design by Masashi Ando (Spirited Away; Princess Mononoke), Kon has brilliantly translated the stunning cinematic style and quality of his earlier features (Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers and Millennium Actress) to this truly innovative anime series. In fact, the show's intricately plotted storyline and strong characterisations bear more relation to the works of David Lynch than to the usual anime fare involving giddy schoolgirls, giant robots and futuristic starships. The sheer originality of PARANOIA AGENT led Sight and Sound magazine to call it "shocking, witty and assured", while SFX hailed it as "truly exceptional." PARANOIA AGENT: THE COMPLETE SERIES (cert. 18) will be released on DVD (£39.99) on 7th April 2008. |
