A more uplifting and inspiring tone is reached in this volume after the devastating events of the last few episodes. Although imprisoned and tortured, Cleo is set to break out, while some of his comrades are preparing to infiltrate the Emperor’s palace to free the anguished Michel. However, these plans do not unfold without trouble. The palace is a minefield of soldiers while the prison holds a very mysterious prisoner, one whom offers Cleo shocking information that could change the scope of their plans on a galactic level!

Although beaten, the rebels are not conquered. In the wake of the Imperial betrayal, the army tries to rebuild in from its ashes. But like ashes on the tongue, it rests ill with Michel the humiliation she suffered at Vetti’s hands. What did he do? The extent of his crime is still unknown fully to the viewer. And Michel’s bounce back from that potential trauma seemed too swift and somehow incomplete. But perhaps that is a fallout that is merely awaiting their next confrontation should Michel and Vetti face each other again.

The biggest shock is with Cleo. Not only does he learn about his parents, he also learns the terrible secret behind the Black Cross Religion. Now knowing this, he must choose to either simply get revenge on Vetti, or try to save the galaxy. To be pirate or to be king – which will Cleo choose? Meanwhile Vetti learns a few secrets as well and that tied with what was hinted at in the flashback to Cleo’s family’s demise teases at disturbing possibilities between these two men. The Soleil that ties them could be more than mere coincidence. And Vetti’s obsession now that he’s had Michel has turned full on to baring blades against Cleo once again.
