Love*Com the Movie is a hilarious live action romantic dramedy about a boy and a girl who, despite physical differences, were made for each other. Based on the shoujo manga hit Love Com by Aya Nakahara, the film provides a wonderful viewing experience into the life and love troubles of two unforgettable people.

Risa Koizumi is and has always been the tallest girl in her class. She hates standing out and it makes trying to find a boyfriend impossible. Her classmate Atsushi Otani has the exact same problem but due to the opposite reason: he’s too short. Both won’t enter into romances for fear of being laughed at, but these two get thrown  together time and again by friends and circumstances due to them being perfect for each other - if only they would see it. At first antagonistic towards each other, a sweet friendship results. But when potential love rivals appear, Risa realizes her heart may have slipped into Atsushi’s grasp already. Can she overcome years of insecurity and win the boy? That’s what she has to find out in the course of this film and in doing so, will win the hearts of viewers everywhere.

The movie is a romantic comedy delight. It has a marvelous quirky and energetic humor. The innovative cinematography makes the movie seem like the manga come to life. This was most impressive as Love Com is Director’s Kitaji Ishikawa’s directorial feature film debut. Actress Ema Fujisawa, known for her role in the popular NHK TV series, is utterly charming as the insecure yet courageous Risa. Teppei Koike is endearing and completely believable as the die-hard never give up Otani. There is also a special appearance by renowned Japanese model, extensive TV and movie actor Shosuke Tanihara who plays the assistant teacher that just might steal Risa’s heart if Otani doesn’t make his move. In the end the film is about believing in oneself and not paying so much attention to the superficial standards others may have. Love doesn’t have a measuring tape! And the film is a joyous expression of how love can, often comically, conquer all.

EXTRAS:
There is a rich trove of fun bonus features that include After-school Christmas which is a collection of bonus scenes featuring the various characters from the film; Umibozu (Sea Monster) which has the full version of the music video of “Is This All Right?” featuring the regular version and a karaoke version as well as a behind the scenes of the video; there is a director and cast list with selected biographies; original Japanese trailers; the full episode special of the zany ‘Hello, Girlfriend’ that featured Rie Koizumi (Risa’s older sister); and there are trailers of Viz Media titles (animation) and Viz Pictures (live action) titles.

IN SUMMARY:
Love*Com is a movie that shows the truest measure of love is the feelings in one’s heart!
