20th CENTURY BOYS TRILOGY WITH 6 BILLION YEN PRODUCTION BUDGET

Based on the Naoki Urasawa’s manga masterpiece, 20th Century Boys trilogy to be produced with 6 billion – yen budget. Cast announced.


Cast for the live-action film 20th Century Boys was announced on February 4. Actor Toshiaki Karasawa to play the lead role of Kenji, Etsuji Toyokawa to play Occho, and actress Takako Tokiwa will portray Yukiji. Based on the popular Naoki Urasawa’s sci-fi manga, 20th Century Boys, the featured-film will be a trilogy and comes with a ¥6 billion production budget, and the first film is schedule for release on August 30, 2008.

Naoki Urasawa is renowned for Monster and Pluto. 20th Century Boys manga has won Kodansha Best Manga Award, Shogakukan Manga Award, The 6th Japan Media Arts Festival Manga Division Grand Prize, and Best Feature-length Manga Award at Angouleme International Comics Festival in France.  Due to the manga’s domestic reputation and popularity abroad, distribution and remake rights for the trilogy can be sold to foreign countries.
