The new team is formed to battle the alien invasion, but rookie Ryusei has a lot to learn if he wants to save the world! Cool hand Rai joins the team and he doesn’t like Ryusei’s gung-ho attitude at all. Ryusei is still treating this all like one big game and it’s rubbing everyone the wrong way. A big screw up during a training mission leaves Ryusei in a sulk and his nerves shook up. So when the bad guys do strike from an unexpected corner, what will Ryusei, now doubting himself, be able to do?
The second volume of the TV series shows the SRX Team being born – but not before a bunch of soap opera angst happens with Ryusei. That boy has a lot of growing up to do and he comes to realize that when he learns a tough lesson. But for all the soul searching, this mecha series still holds action. Whether it’s on the training ground against tanks, over the water and in the desert against unknown foes, or in the South Pole, mecha, mecha, mecha and more mecha! What’s surprising is that this volume has no aliens. Maybe. Instead the team has to fight against an all new mecha that seems superior in every way to the Personal Troopers the SRX Team pilot. It’s only through team work that they can hope to gain the upper hand but with bad feelings between Rai and Ryusei, that might be asking too much! Later at a special ceremony where the EOTI are unveiling their new robot, the SRX Team are sent on a mission to help guard it. That is until the sky opens up and something massive is about to land on their heads! What could it be? And what are those conniving EOTI guys plotting now? Are they the real enemy? Fun, action and then more action, Super Robot Wars OG: Divine Wars is superb essential mecha anime. There’s the interpersonal melodrama, new team members appear this volume, mystery involving both Aya, the captain, and others. Plus now the Earth Federation has not only the aliens to worry about, but it seems like the EOTI may be up to no good! And there’s more super animation this round. The way the sun sparkles over the water, or how a robot during battle gets its arm cleaved off, it all looks great. EXTRAS: The bonus goody for this first disc is an 8 page booklet with background info, character and mecha profiles, including full color images and a glossary.
