Makoto Shinkai's 5 Centimerter's Per Second wins the Lancia Platinum Grand Prize for best movie in animation or with special effects at Future Film Festival, siting Mr. Shinkai's ability to combine poetry, art and technical merit with new animation and technology, with a touch of deep-rooted story and a model direction, and professionalism in every production aspect of the featured film.

Michael Arias's Tekkonkinkreet receive "special mention" for interesting and original graphics with an involving story with a non-rhetorical message.

The award was held between January 15 - 20 in Bologna, Italy.
