You’ll need CPR training to watch this anime because you and your friends will keel over laughing from it! Based on the insane manga Ninin ga Shinobuden (2 x 2 = Shinobuden) by Ryoichi Koga, this anime takes absurd comedy to the wall and over the edge! It’s laugh out loud funny. You have innocent Shinobu, cute, but witless. On a panty raiding mission from her perverted trainer Onsokumaru (he’s rude, crude and lewd and also happens to be a yellow happy face), she meets Kaede, the only shot of sanity in this entire series. Kaede is pretty much your average high school girl, but she’s overtaken with Kaede’s cuteness and they become best friends. Pure Shinobu is so smitten with Kaede’s niceness that she’s hooked on Kaede, stuck to her like glue. And before you can say “Kawabonga!” she drags her off from one senseless crazy ninja (barely) adventure after another. Do any of these stories make sense…it’s Ninja Nonsense! It’s not supposed to! It’s crazy comedy, big fun and huge laughs. Each episode is actually split into two mini ones. Favorites personally for me were Kaede and Shinobu’s first date, the first appearance of bratty yet competent younger sister to Shinobu - Miyabi who becomes Onsokumaru’s arch-nemesis throughout the series, the ninja Christmas ep because I’m a sap, and absolute favorite all time episode from the whole series: when Onsokumaru goes to Hell! It is so funny I nearly peed myself! And at all times keep your eyes on Shinobu’s happy face on her headband, it keeps changing with her moods. The one when she’s in Hell has a skull on it – too fun! The animation is zany. It goes for cute when it’s not being curde. They slide in fan service amply enough. It’s got all sorts of inside jokes too. Anime fans keep your eyes out as this show spoofs everything and anything including other anime series like Mobile Suit Gundam, Sailor Moon, it even spoofs Harry Potter! The music is a laugh too. The ending has the ninja army in stop motion animation going after panty thieving Onsokumaru to the beat of what sounds like Japanese square dancing music. It’s a gas! EXTRAS:
