The terrible master Urd storyline comes to a climatic conclusion in the sixth volume of Oh! My Goddess. Overcome by evil, she’s managed to get her hands on the Ultimate Destruction Program. Hell bent on bringing chaos to Earth, she frees the monstrous wolf Fenrir and the Midgard serpent to wreak havoc upon the planet. Now Belldandy, Skuld and Keiichi must battle the person they care for in order to stop Urd from destroying the universe.
A large portion of this volume deals with the stunning conclusion to the dramatic arc of divine sister having to fight divine-turned-devilish sister. It tears Belldandy apart to have to fight her own sister Urd, but having little choice, she must use all the magic her power possesses to take her sister down. However, the greatest shock is yet to come when the destructive force behind Urd’s transformation finds a most unlikely and astonishing host. After so much drama, the volume takes the intensity down a few notches with its later chapters. First is a hilarious robot war between Megumi and Skuld. It proves a comedic romp as well as one that has some bonding moments between these two girls who have more in common than they’ve realized. Next is a tender story about growing up too fast when some magic gone wrong leaves Skuld grown up and Belldandy teeny tiny. Skuld spends her day as an adult with Keiichi and realizes how much she still has to learn and how precious childhood truly is. Along the same vein, the follow up story has Urd trapped into a child self. She spends the day with a kind boy. It’s a bittersweet story about gentle and innocent hearts. Each story is guaranteed to put a smile on the reader’s face. And also in these pages is a heart warming confession between Belldandy and Keiichi. Manga extras include 4 full color pages exclusive to the new editions, translation notes, fan letters and fan art. IN SUMMARY: The latest volume of Oh! My Goddess sees the amazing finale to the Lord of Terror story arc and finds time for some sweet and tender moments for the cast of divine beauties. It’s a magical delight. |
