As the story goes, wimpy Sena Kobayakawa (Eye Shield 21 himself) has been running away from people who make his days difficult all his life. His one true time to shine is when the football gear goes on - then things change for the better. Sena’s speed and uncanny ability to stay out of the way of big bullies is what makes him a great high school football star. All the bone-crunching action and goofy comedy of a sports manga is here, and so much more as the story continues on with volume fifteen!
The Devil Bats' game against the Poseidons comes to its nail-biting conclusion, a foot from the Poseidon’s' goal line, and with only two seconds left in the game. Who will win, and by what tactics? Hopefully Sea Kobayakawa will be able to pull them through to the finish line. Later, a new player shows up on the scene - Sena's childhood friend Riku, a Seibu Wild Gunman who's looking to become Sena's greatest rival. As if he needs anyone else trying to compete with him in this way – he’s got enough people on his back as it is! The action and laughs are abundant throughout this volume of the series, still bringing home everything readers have come to love about Eyeshield 21. The humour is still thriving with lots of over the top visual gags and goofy characters. The art is still frantic and detailed – the sports action portions being some of the best. It never ceases to be amazing that the artist can cram so much visual content into each page, especially anything relating to the sports action, or over the top comedy portions of the manga. Talk about getting your bang for your buck – each page has so much to look at, so each book will last you that much more time. The added bonuses at the end of the book are also really appreciated. There are some extended biographies that go in depth to discuss the characters and their importance to the story, as well as a few joke comics to add to the worth of this already very entertaining manga. IN SUMMARY: Eyeshield 21 always has a lot to offer, allowing the reader to get more out of their book as well as enjoying the replay value that such additions bring to a manga. |
