Sangbaek returns home to his parent's house while they ask him how he has been in Jeju Island as he has been away a long time. They hope he has maintained his skin and looks as he needs to, and that he is well in health. He is a sophomore at "So and So" university on Jeju Island, Korea's largest Island and he has a fondness for going out with his binoculars and viewing the world around him as well as capturing the look of women in varying states of undress. He has been like this since he was given the pair of binoculars as a middle-school entrance gift, and as lost no time in savouring women all over the place.
His girlfriend Hyeji has known him from school, and has grown well since he was away. He recalls how he watched her at school when she was his best friend, and he realises he has missed out on a lot since he was away. Sangbaek spends most of his time hanging around with his trustee binoculars trying to find some sensual female with which to view them by. Usually he finds them - and falls for their beauty, but remembers his love, Hyeji. One night he uses his binoculars to look out and sees Hyeji through a window with another man he does not know, and wonders why she is dancing for him and kissing him when she is supposed to be going out with him. He wonders if she could have possibly changed her mind about him while he was away. Hyeji arranges to go and see him at his mother's house, though when she goes up to his room, she notices him fast asleep, draped over his desk along with some strange poetry he has been writing. After a day with Hyeji, Sangbaek faces the problem of her handing him back the diary he wrote about her, and the letters and tells him she is to make a fresh start. She wants him to stop writing to her, as she is adamant to move on with her life and take a new male up on an offer she just cannot refuse. Passionate Two Face is a saucy tale of one schoolboy's favourite passion of looking at women, and his life with his girlfriend Hyeji who he loses early on in this first volume, and the fact that he has a dual sided personality as do all the characters in this manga. Sangbaek finds his life is to be more important than he thinks when he has the opportunity of a lifetime, but at a cost. Youjung Lee has created a wonderfully illustrated manga that shows how the characters have been developed in this way.
Hyeji's face is well illustrated and her body will attract a veritable feast of male readers to this volume. Sangbaek is a typical teenage kid out for kicks and fun, and that is depicted well in his dress and facial features, as well as his outrageous hairstyle. IN SUMMARY: This first volume is a crazy and lively fun manga, which shows that everyone has a dual side to their personality. |
