Vincent wakes from a terrifying dream, only to find himself in a strange place, a huge building overlooking a city he has never seen before. Pino wonders around the place with him and they come to meet the enigmatic male who tells Vin he was unconscious on Kharos, so he brought him to this land.
Vin is even more saddened to discover him and his sister were the only survivors. The male's name is Kazkis Hauer, master of the tower they are currently in. Vin talks about things to the mystery gentleman such as his sister being an infected Auto-Reiv, but she views Kazkis's generosity and kindness with suspicious eyes. Though Vin is still seeing every part of the place with awe, Pino wants to take him from the tower back to the boat away from there as she feels uneasy around the master of the tower. When he still surveys the area, him and his sister find something they did not expect, huge armour clad warriors that look as though they are inanimate. This sets Vincent wondering what really happened on Kharos. There are extremely sinister overtones in this series of four episodes. There is the expanse of the place they inhabit, the city and the sterile atmosphere it conjures up for the viewer. All is not what it seems for Vincent and Pino as they try to find answers to why they are there in the huge tower in among what looks like no one else. The city itself has a void aspect about it, though the people below who live in the city, the viewer will have the thought they are cut off from civilization as they know it, instead they live in ignorance, burdened by technology. The elusive and strange character of Kazkis is made more peculiar as he is seen wondering the tower as guardian, imbibing large quantities of red wine and not becoming intoxicated in the slightest. And if this is not surreal enough then the sheer size of the building they are in conjures up the fear one can have in an open space where everything is new and of course daunting. It was a real treat to hear the voice of Troy Baker who plays Kazkia Hauer in this volume of Ergo Proxy. He is also the voice of the loveable Abel Nightroad in Trinity Blood which has impressed many viewers so far and as many viewers will recognise he is the voice of Gennosuke Kouga in Basilisk, Jenos Hazard in Black Cat, the outlaw alchemist in Full Metal Alchemist the Broken Angel and David in Speed Grapher as his appearances. It is interesting to note that the whole four episodes have a particular creepy feel to them, and the tune from Radiohead just adds to the emotion felt when watching it. EXTRAS: Trailers for other anime series. IN SUMMARY: Eerie, sinister and shockingly wonderful.
