Le Chevalier concludes with all the evocative drama, poetic beauty, and tragedy of any of the great Shakespearean epics. The Secret du Roi are betrayed by one of their own and it sets off a string of tragedies that will bring about the flames of revolution and the spirit of vengeance. D’Eon is forced to fight to the death with a man he looked up to as a father. But the traitorous actions do not end there. Within the palace itself, king and queen set fatal traps, covert factions lurk in the shadows, and death waits eagerly in the wings. Lia’s soul cries out for revenge. In the end, can any soul truly triumph in such a maze of deceit and desire?
This has been one of the most enthralling anime ever. The depth and sophistication of the story have been remarkable. The finale of this complex and riveting series happens in a series of events, each one more shocking than the last. It will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Here it is at last revealed who murdered Lia, the true bond between her and Maximillien, and the fate of her and her brother D’Eon. And herein lies one of the biggest secrets of them all, the truth about the Royal Psalms, what they hold, and the fate of the people and the nation that this one book has so ensnared in a series of tragedies and betrayal most foul. The full past of Lia’s time with the Secret du Roi, her relationship with Maximillien, and the events leading up to her death are disturbing, tragic and moving as much as they are shocking. Her tale is one of great woe, but so to is the fate of many of those within this tale. The choices characters make, the actions that change everything, and the ambitions that defeat them, are intense in their power. Nothing has occurred in this anime without a reason and everything ties together for an astonishing finale. This anime holds some of the strongest writing I’ve had the pleasure to see in any anime series. Le Chevalier is one of the top ten anime not only of the year, but of the decade.
