It’s the final volume of Air Gear. Now that Ikki’s the Sky King what’s left to conquer? Only the world! That’s right, now that the dude with the killer AT moves has donned the mantel of king, he’s got to live up to the name, leading Genesis, his own personal and enormous AT army up against the Tower. But oh no, guess what that means? He has to face off against his own bevy of beauties, those lovely ladies who’ve been looking out for him all this time – Sleeping Forest!
Oh yeah, that Simca is one cunning babe. She’s got Ikki right where she wants him, with Ringo as his enemy! Or does she? Maybe Simca underestimated just what a do-gooder block head our Ikki is. All this big brouhaha over his kingship and what does Ikki do? He decides to go on a vacation hot spring style! He takes all his AT buddies to Kanto for some good times and great memories. Their girls come along, including the lovelorn Ringo (and just when did she realize that she was in love with him?). Just when it looks like it all might be good times, the gang just happened to go to the exact spot where the toughest, baddest Storm Riders of Genesis live – The Trident! There are only 3 members but they’re the baddest of all the Genesis army. Now Ikki has to face off against them. Ambushes, kidnappings, and Ikki’s reputation are all on the line in the final Air Trek battle of this kick ass anime! The show jumps around in this last volume. It hits some hard times for Ikki, or it would, but it keeps bouncing back to the usual slacker comedy we like. But it does take away a bit of the tension for the finale. It all comes down to Ikki being able to do this massive jump with his friends literally forming the line he has to fly over. If he falls short, he could kill them! This should be seriously tense stuff, but the show comes off light with it. It’s still fun but it would have been cool to have a stronger climax to this kick ass series. Instead it ends on a sort of off-note. It’s totally prepped for another season with all the stuff left to do, AT battles to face, a few things left unanswered. And don’t you want to know what happens between Ikki and Ringo? And just why is Simca so conniving? You won’t find out here, but the anime leaves you on happy note so hug your Air Treks and wipe a tear from you eye that there isn’t anymore, because it was sheer fun while it lasted. EXTRAS: It has clean opening and closing animation, previews, and another shiny foil cover. IN SUMMARY: Air Gear finishes off the series with some stylin’ moves and a light tone. It’s a fun, kickin’ anime!
