As the Durandal acquired the last of the Zohar from their battle against the Gnosis with the help of KOS-MOS, Shion is at a lost on how powerful KOS-MOS is and wonders if she is even the same KOS-MOS she’s been working with all these time. To make matter worst for her, she finds out the fate of the human survivor that encountered the Gnosis, as she is one of those survivors that came in contact with the enemy.

Upon their arrival at the Kukai Foundation, everyone had the chance to relax for a bit. However, there R&R is cut short when U-TIC launches another scheme to capture MOMO, as U-TIC falsely implicates the Durandal with the destruction of Woglinde and its fleet.

Detained by the marines at the foundation due to suspicion of treason, Shion and the others must prove their innocence from the Federation and must gain conclusive evidence of what actually transpired. To do so, they must acquire unaltered data from a security system that cannot be altered, and the data in KOS-MOS’ Triple A system is what they need. However, to gain access to the data, they must dive into the Encephalon and access KOS-MOS' subconscious mind. But their dive serves a dual purpose, as Nephilim, the overseer of time, makes contact with Shion and Junior to relive and conquer their darkest hours to save the future.

After watching Xenosaga The Animation for another round, I’ve finally concluded that this is not your average game turned anime as there is so much background plot packed in each episode. Although the second volume didn’t come with as much twists and turns like the first volume, viewers are engaged to take this series seriously.

Another aspect that I’ve enjoyed in this volume is the way the animators managed to incorporate the battle moves of Shion, MOMO, Junior, and Ziggy during their dive in the Encephalon. A very ingenious way of keeping that feature of the game that could have been easily lost in the production of the anime.

IN SUMMARY:
As engaging a series as it is entertaining makes this anime a true testament to the video game.
