An anthology of yaoi romances that range from the dramatic to the off-beat and comedic, Sensitive Pornograph covers a wide range of love and characters. There are six different stories.  The first, sharing the same title as the manga, covers a love between a new and young aspiring manga artist and the mangaka he always admired. He had assumed that person was a woman, but finding out that she is a he doesn’t deter the young man’s impulsive and ardent desires. Next in “Please, Kiss Me” comes a story about the school thug and what happens when he falls for the new boy who is an even tougher delinquent than he is. Then in “Non-Adult Situations” Shima and Tetsu played a lot of ‘adult’ games as kids, now that they’re growing up, Shima gets kicked out of the house for being gay and his crashing at Tetsu’s puts the other guy right back into those heady days of summer. In “Indirect Youth” the son of the boss aspires at photography and takes a very aggressive yet indirect approach to showing his feelings for a worker there – by blackmailing him! Afterwards in “Trophies Belong in the Bedroom”, a pet sitter gets a lot more than he bargained for when the pet in question turns out to be a naked and very alluring man! The last story “Come Home” sees childhood friends reunited after six years to bring about some startling surprises.

A lot of stories, various characters, and different stages are set for love. Most of the tales are fairly light and fun but some of them touch on darker aspects of human nature. In tales like “Indirect Youth” we have a young man forcing himself on a person subjugated to him and then taking explicit photos without consent and using them to keep the lover under his power. In “Trophies” there are more control and abuse issues with a man being chained up naked and kept to have sex with. Even in the lighter stories such as “Please, Kiss Me” and “Come Home” the issue of abuse comes up. Granted the stories tend to shy away from anything too harsh and usually gives things a quirky comedic slant, especially in “Please Kiss Me”.  Therefore, it’s not all peaches and cream but somehow manages to stay mostly light. Out of all six stories, a personal choice is “Come Home”, it had a tender nature to it that was charming.

The art style is comely. It has a nice clean style and overall appeal. The explicitness of the manga ranges in variety with the stories. Some are more erotically implied, while others such as “Indirect Youth” tend to have more graphic imagery. The characters styles are as varied as the stories, showing a lot of different looks and types for yaoi fans to pick and choose from as their favorites. This manga also has a full color cover page that shows a lovely illustration of the couple from the first story in a very erotic pose.

IN SUMMARY:
Sensitive Pornograph is a yaoi anthology with a lot of diversity and humor despite touching upon some more serious subject matter.
