Trapped by the devil, the angel Karasu and the demon Shirasagi somehow manage to escape Beelzebub’s trap. But was it all too easy? Back on the earthly plane, Karasu and Shirasagi try to heal from their battle and escape and find a life with each other, still not recognizing what burns in their hearts. A young and energetic man named Koumori enters their lives and he holds an incredible fighting power over supernatural beings, but which side is he on – the Angels or the Devils? Before they can answer, Shirasagi is reunited with his old mentor Sarugami, only to end up having his old friend and many innocents thrown in the middle of the Devil’s plot and the Angels’ machinations. With innocent lives suffering and their faith being tested, Karasu and Shirasagi are about to discover the true strength of what lies deep in their hearts on the very edge of a war between Heaven and Hell!

A fantastic Gothic fantasy series, the second volume of this yaoi manga picks up a dense story line thick with intrigue and secondary characters of heady weight in their impact upon Karasu and Shirasagi. All this intrigue with the two men caught in the middle, gives cause for the two young men to seriously question their faith, what they truly desire, and what they are willing to sacrifice.

This kind of Gothic intrigue and politics between Heaven and Hell is the kind of stuff fans of Angel Sanctuary will deeply enjoy. The love story is however slow to progress. It is only in this volume dealing with jealousy and desires before unknown to them, that the two men come to realize their love for each other. But that is only part of a larger story dealing with issues of faith, the power of true love, and a battle for the soul. By the end of this volume, an angel will ascend, a promise of betrayal will be uttered, and the world will be placed on the edge of an all out battle between the Devil and God. At the heart of it are two men from both realms who have found peace in each others arms and may be the key to averting the pending apocalypse.

IN SUMMARY:
A fallen angel and a virtuous devil make a compelling couple in this absorbing and layered yaoi fantasy tale that will delight fans of Gothic art styles and Angel Sanctuary. It offers more in depth story and art work than the average yaoi by far.
