The wonderfully rich Gothic art of Kaori Yuki’s renowned Angle Sanctuary manga series is collected in this splendid hard cover art book. This second art book collects the illustrations of the cult favorite and international hit manga Angel Sanctuary, spanning Kaori Yuki’s art from 1997 to 2000.
If you love Gothic art style, you’ll love this book. Gorgeously rendered sinful angels and angelic demons highlight this collection along with the main characters from the manga. The book begins with a transparency of a cross over a wing that is an art lover’s delight. The entirety of the collection is well organized, beginning with a range of full color artwork from Angel Sanctuary. This is the bulk of the book and many of the illustrations are splash pages. There’s even a splash page of the entire main cast, at least most of them considering the manga series has one of the largest casts ever compiled. There are some especially beautiful illustrations of Setsuna and Sara. Personal favorites include one of Kira holding a black sword, and one of the devil princess Kurai looking more adult and beautiful. All the art is riveting, featuring characters both sinful and angelic. It’s any Goth lover’s dream. The remainder of the collection includes an extensive Characters and Story section which has art work and profiles on the characters of the manga, giving each character listed a facial image, a scene from the manga, lists their position, their personality and gives a defining quote from the character. The book then offers a glossary, breaking down the types, powers and hierarchy of the angels and the demons of the worlds within Angel Sanctuary. It lists the twelve angels of the zodiac and gives a chronicle of the wars between Heaven and Hell. There is a black and white title page collection and the images of the drama CD, OVA DVD, and books released on Angel Sanctuary. This collection also holds an in depth interview with Kaori Yuki which also shows the mangaka’s favorite scenes and panels as well as offering fans a look at Kaori Yuki’s process in developing the book and background on how Angel Sanctuary came into being. IN SUMMARY: This art collection will thrill Goth lovers and enthrall fans of Angel Sanctuary. |
