A disastrous return home to earth causes the GPO to think that Kurau and Christmas have perished in a freighter explosion while they're on board, and refocuses the GPO's attention to Yvon, a Ryna-Sapian created in a lab that escaped. Yvon is seeking a new pair and comes in contact with Kurau and Christmas. The search for the byproduct Ryna-Sapian leads the GPO dangerously close to Kurau and Christmas who are leading a simple life with their relatives in Switzerland.

The start of the second half of the series slows things down a bit as it touches on some of the questions surrounding Kurau in the first half. Where did she go when she was declared dead by her father? What was her motivation to become an agent, and how did she cope without her father as a young child? With all of those questions answered, Kurau Phantom Memory Vol. 5 brings the viewers to its most emotional volume thus far. In addition, there are more emotional moments surrounding other characters in the show: the reunion of Doug with his son, and the farewell of Yvon and Jessica-which leads to an explosive ending of the volume.

However, with the introduction of Yvon, more twists and turns are introduced to this already magnificent series.
