Nakatsu’s mom arrives and wants to bring him home to take over the family business, down with soccer! Mizuki can’t help herself when she sees anyone having trouble, she has to get involved. She listens to Nakatsu’s problems and starts spending a lot of time with him. Sano notices and both his and Mzuki’s feelings get muddled. After all, she couldn’t have feelings for Nakatsu could she? It’s love, melodrama and hearts afire in Hana Kimi.

The family drama with Nakatsu takes up a good portion of this volume. What is most interesting about it is how it confuses Mizuki’s feelings. She’s guilt ridden and can’t meet Sano’s eyes but doesn’t know why. Could her heart be changing? But Sano says something quite unexpected to her and it puts things in a different perspective for Mizuki. However, Nakatsu isn’t the only one leaning on her shoulder. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and while Mizuki struggles with whether to give Sano chocolates or not, Nakao has long harbored unrequited love for Nanba, the school playboy who is always surrounded by a gaggle of girls when he goes out. Nakao screws his courage to the sticking post and takes the plunge, the fallout however is heartbreaking.

The meandering and waiting to see what happens between Sano and Mizuki is starting to get painful. They are doing their best to put in the stories of secondary characters to distract the reader from the main romance brewing, but by volume twenty, the suspense is bordering on pain. Luckily this is getting towards the final volumes (there’s a total of 23) so you know that things are going to finally happen soon in this shoujo series as there isn’t that many volumes left. The new drama with Nakao and his feelings for Nanba steal the story this round.

IN SUMMARY:
Nakatsu might have to leave school, Sano’s jealous of the time Mizuki is spending with Nakatsu, and her heart may be wavering towards the other boy! That, plus a surprising turn of events in the lives of two of the academy’s schoolmates. It all takes place here in the latest manga volume of Hana Kimi.
