Kakashi Hatake performs the curse sealing jutsu on Sasuke Uchiha, and while he screams in agonising pain, the scarlet glyphs snake toward his neck where another glyph resides where they merge into his body. He tells the boy that if the power of the Justu dies so will he. He is amazed that the boy is not afraid, but too exhausted to argue or fight with him as the boy now contains within his body the full power of the curse.

Urichi Maru uncovers his magic using and tells him he is jealous of his good fortune he has and wonders how it is he has acquired the curst sealing jutsu as he did not possess if the last time he saw him. Kakashi says he wants the Uchiya power.
Urichi wants the boy for himself as Kakashi counters his words reminding him he will fight so that he cannot get his hands on Sasuke at all. Urichi says the sealing he put on the boy will not contain the power forever and soon his full ambition, his new inner nature will come to a head and sooner or later Sasuke will come looking for Uruchi, and the power he has. He knows Kakashi has intended for a very long time to kill him and Uruchi tells him he has his chance.

Shino Aburame wins a match against another student, when he is found to be a host to some insect life form from a clan he enters into a pact with which he allows the insects to go into his body and in turn he fights their battles for him, while they feed on the host’s charka as part of the bargain. He is now feared by his other classmates.

Urichi mentions that he needs fighters, pawns for his own using while Kakashi answers he means Sasuke is one of those pawns. Uruchi tells him no. He is more valuable and useful than that. As Urichi moves toward him, in want of Sasuke as his own, Kakashi warns him not to come any closer, blue lightening issuing from his hands to ward him away from the boy.

Meanwhile, as Shino has won so well, Naruto expresses his need to combat in a match with him, as he was so perplexed at his strength as he seemed so quiet around the others when he was learning at school. Sakura though finds Shino strange now that he has used the insect beings within his body as weapons against the opponent.Naruto sees Kakashi and asks about Sasuke. He replies he is in the infirmary healing well, but put under guard as he fears someone may come to take him.

Sakura and Ino fight in the fourth battle. Sakura is apprehensive at combating against her as she is an extremely good match, but after her trying to intimidate her in the rest room earlier, she puts up an image of control, and confidence.
As they stand ready to fight, Naruto shouts to Sakura to give her support as he believes in her ability to do well, and as they fight they do not use their power to effect yet. Sakura remembers her feelings of inadequacy in the past. She decides she wants to be a true shinobi after this fight and cannot do it if Ino holds back on her with her technique.

A full action mixture of justu and hand to hand combat scenes, with characters that really prove themselves in the anime. This is a feast of battles and interesting story.

IN SUMMARY:
All action, tense and thrilling – an excellent second volume. It is no wonder this is such a hit!
