As Re-l, Vicent and Pino travel to Mosk where they believe all the answers lie, things in Romdo are unraveling. The head of the security division, Raul, has chosen to embark on a search of his own and the answers he comes up with will put a harsh light on the lives of those in Romdo. The penultimate volume of the most fascinating science fiction series of the year asks the hardest questions yet in Ergo Proxy.

This volume is neatly divided into what is happening with Re-l, Vincent and Pino and what is happening over in Romdo. Both become one story intertwined. What the trio discovers when they arrive at Mosk shocks them, but what happens with Vincent is the most dreadful of actions yet taken by the tortured soul. Just what is his true purpose, what happened at Mosk, and what is hidden in his lost memories that could lead Vincent to kill to not find out? At times horrifying, at the very least disturbing, things don’t let up when the harsh light of truth is turned on Romdo. Raul’s pursuits are putting him in very perilous waters with the top brass. He doesn’t care. His search has become an obsession, one that revolves around Vincent, the Proxy, and what could perhaps unravel the whole tangle of deceit covering these deeply buried secrets. However, even though he may seem cornered by those who would do anything to keep their seats of power, the devious Raul has a card hidden up his sleeve, one that will shock viewers.

This volume also sees another surrealistic episode but one that surprisingly involves Pino, the Cogito infected autoreiv. The final episode of this volume sees Re-l back at Romdo and Vincent captured...or are they? Nothing is quite as it seems and the very question of self is up for grabs. If anything, this could very well be the most esoteric set of episodes yet as everyone in it is seriously questioning their purpose, their aims, and what their existence and that of the world they live in is truly all about. In some case, it could well prove to be a question of sanity as the weight of despair that uncovering reality brings, pushes some of the characters to the brink, and perhaps over it.
