REVIEW:
Here it is, the entire Frieza saga on 6 discs giving nearly 800 minutes of fighting action! Dragon Ball Z is the ultimate action anime. This is what put action anime on the map on an international scale. Based off of the incredibly popular manga by Akira Toriyama, the anime takes it to a whole new level of excitement! I don’t know about you, but this is still on TV, I remember watching it as a kid and I still watch it now. What the new season box set offers is an entire saga packed into one box set with the entire series digitally restored for the most pristine animation transfer of the classic anime remastered in high-definition and sound digitally restored along with the visuals. This means the sharpest look and best sound ever and you get 3 choices for your audio pleasure: original Japanese voice track with original music, English voice track with original Japanese music in 5.1 surround sound (sweet!), and English voice track with the TV broadcast music in stereo. Wow! You’ll be in action anime heaven!

So what’s the Frieza saga all about? Well, it starts off with Goku’s son Gohan and his buddy Krillin having finished gathering the 7 Namekian Dragon Balls. With them you can summon the legendary dragon who will grant any wish. But watch out good guys! Bad alien Frieza is on the move and he wants the power of the Dragon Balls for himself. Before you can yell “Danger, Will Robinson, danger” Gohan and Krillin are in the thick of it, fighting not only for their lives, but trying to save an entire planet from Frieza’s evil ways too! Old enemies become new allies and old allies gather to help save the planet and maybe the universe from Frieza’s maniacal ways. Piccolo, Vegeta, Bulma and of course Goku all show up to lend a big hand, and when needed, a well placed fist. Before the end comes, fighters die and the planet Namek is about to explode! It all rests on the outcome of the huge battle between super powers the transformed Frieza and the now Super Saiyan Goku!

It’s a whole lot of action in one legendary anime. The big stand out moment has got to be Goku’s transformation from regular Saiyan dude to mega-powered Super Saiyan status. Go Goku! All the heroes have shining moments where they show just what they’re made of. And there’s some kick-butt action that is at times crazy violent, in fact a certain bad guy gets cut into pieces. Extreme! The show never lets up, but powers through with arcs of heroism, self-sacrifice and proving that action heroes still deserve and have a place in the hearts of viewers. As for people dying, this is Dragon Ball Z, you know they’ll find some way to get those people back to life one way or another. Nothing too angsty, it’s all action all the time. It’s Dragon Ball Z!
