It’s more shenanigans with the lovely ladies of the Rune Angel Troupe in the penultimate volume of the series. First Nano-Nano has gone missing. Lo, a bit of chance channel surfing reveals she’s been abducted by that the spoiled (and likely insane) Princess Natsume to become a pop idol sensation duo! To get her back, the troupe must enter into a popularity contest in front of a crowd of thousands. Trivia questions, singing competitions, it’s one crazy event after another with all of the girls participating. Add in an assassination attempt and it’s the typical insanity the Rune Angel Troupe takes part in daily. Proof of that is what happens next when the Moon Angel Troupe is reportedly arriving. The girls each go frantic remembering their own individual encounters with the various members of the Moon Angel Troupe – most of them not good ones. Afterwards a rainy day, a ghost story, and the quickly disappearing members of the Angel Troupe have Lily racing for answers and a way to save her teammates.
Last but not least, the final episode on this disc involves Anise’s search for money and financial freedom from her monstrous monetary debt. It leads her to a treasure hunt with Nano-Nano in tow, a questionable inheritance coming Anise’s way, and the trouble and trials her teammates go through as they try to pursue her. Space squids and giant soup bowls are just the start of their headaches and the wackiness found in Galaxy Angel Rune! Galaxy Angel Rune leaves no comedic antic unturned in the latest volume of comedic mayhem. Of special note this particular volume is the appearance of the original Galaxy Angels. We get to see Mint, Forte, Vanilla, Millefueille, Ranpha and even the member who appeared later in the original series, Chitose. They’re mostly only cameos but for fans of the original show, it’s a great treat. Finding out how the individual Rune Troupe members met the various original Angels is hilarious. From there, the ghost story one has a lot of fun with the audience, giving broad winks to shows like Ringu and such without ever truly entering real horror to it. It plays out like a spoof of such horror staples and then turns them on their head with typical Rune Angel wacky comedic twists. However, the stand out moment in this volume for this particular viewer would have to be when Rico, Lily, and Tequila have to work on a space squid fishing boat to try to catch up to Anise and Nano-Nano. Watching them fish for space squids, holed up in the cargo bay all disgusted and filthy, was worth a lot of laughs. EXTRAS: There is a continuing array of bonus features. This volume includes reverse cover art and comes in a deep blue transparent DVD case. The insert offers up character bios, spaceship information and several character and mechanical sketches. It also has the Angel Rune attacks and special text character introductions in the booklet from the Japanese voice actresses playing the part of their anime roles. In this case it is with Aya Hirano as Kahlua/Tequila and Satomi Akesaka as Nano-Nano. DVD extras include two short live action films. The first stars Aya Hirano (Kahlua/Tequila) and the second one stars Satomi Akesaka (Nano-Nano). Two more shorts about bittersweet love. IN SUMMARY: More laughs, more action and even more off-the-wall antics, Galaxy Angel Troupe is fun and then some. |
