From the creator of Words of Devotion comes a first time story involving a romance between an aloof scientist and his honest and straightforward colleague. Sudou has a terrible reputation at the office, one that scares people off or attracts the worse types. He brushes them all off. One night, his colleague Hirokawa sees the cold scientist letting loose and playing jazz while busking on the street. This opens Hirokawa’s eyes to a whole new and unexpected side to Sudou, one that intrigues and draws Hirokawa to him like a moth to a flame. As Hirokawa is about to learn, not everything is at it seems, especially not when it comes to the notoriously gossiped about Don Juan of the office. Sudou startles Hirokawa time and again, but that’s nothing compared to the world shaking impact Hirokawa’s influence will have on the isolated Sudou.

Star depicts a complicated relationship of push and pull as attraction wars with insecurities and fear. Sudou’s anger and cold indifference may be a façade. What is the truth? Any good scientist learns to collect all the data before drawing to a conclusion. And Hirokawa may be the guy determined enough to do it!

The manga has an engaging enough art style with an appealing roughness to the character design of Hirokawa in particular.  There’s some angst, and Star holds a more mature story telling manner than anticipated. It holds interesting characters where everything isn’t laid out on the table all at once. They are surprisingly complex and so too therefore is their stumbling relationship. As these two men try to integrate their hearts and their work lives together, can they figure out their love without sacrificing their careers or hurting each other?

IN SUMMARY:
Star is a stand alone yaoi with surprisingly complex characters embarking on a difficult romance.
