You want a really rocking adventure story to read?  Then read Clamp’s TSUBASA.  Part of the RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, containing also the story XXX HOLIC, (also published by Del Rey), TSUBASA spans worlds of mystery and wonder in its’ plot, featuring characters like CARDCAPTOR SAKURA’s Syaoran and Sakura as our heroes on a journey to find lost memories cruelly taken from Sakura by dark forces.  It will easily give you what you want, from eye popping action to tender moments for the softer of heart.

In Volume 14, our travelers are still in the country of Recort, containing the biggest library they’ve ever seen.  Syaoran and Sakura were quick to discover in Volume 13 that yet another feather resided there, and, after Syaoran encounters a ‘memory’ book that with the touch of one person could put their memories into print, (and because Kurogane was the one who touched it before he did, Syaoran learned of the tragic past that made this warrior what he is), it became obvious that finding their quarry would be no easy task.  In fact, as the volume opens, and the feather is traced to one of the books in the restricted part of this huge library, the story switches gears from a reflective and sad story to a high octane caper piece.  Call it THE RECORT JOB, or SYAORAN’S FIVE.  It becomes obvious fairly quickly that the group will have to use their wits and muscle interchangeably to defeat the beasts that defend the book with Sakura’s feather in it.  Will they be able to do this?  Will they be able to escape from Recort afterwards?  When will the beings who have been watching Syaoran in this quest finally reveal themselves to him and force the final confrontation that is coming quickly?  Clamp is keeping us all guessing, but as Del Rey only has 16 volumes listed on the website in the series, we can safely assume that things are going to start moving even faster in the stories ahead.

The ‘feather five’ has certainly had a wild time of it in this saga to date, and this volume does not rest on its laurels.  This remarkable story continues to pack an emotional punch equal to the over the top action that gives it so much appeal to the shonen audience it was written for.  As in all the volumes so far, Clamp’s art is bold- beautifully stylized with sweeping lines and curves that link the frames and pages with breathless ease.  The cameos from characters in other Clamp stories continues to give a little spice to the story, and one appearance at the end of the volume- for those who have not read the book, I’m not telling who it is- means that things are going to get very interesting in Volume 15, when it comes out later this year.

EXTRA:
As in other Del Rey releases, the story has excellent notes at the end, but this time lacks the usual teaser that previews, at least in Japanese, what will happen in the next volume.  Considering who’s showing up, that really hurts, because it’s bound to be interesting, to say the least.

IN SUMMARY:
TSUBASA VOLUME 14 will thrill audiences with its expert blending of adventure, heart rending drama, and shattering action.  The exciting odyssey of Sakura and Syaoran as they journey across worlds of adventure and mystery in search of feathers that can restore Sakura’s memory to health is a must have manga for fans of Clamp and readers of adventure quests the world over.
