In this atmospheric second volume, Evan witnesses Jayce outside the house, sunlight beating down on him, a wound on his hand dripping blood on the ground, finding it scary that Jayce has no sense of urgency about the wound, just staring at it as if it is nothing important. He takes no heed when Evan tells him he wants to stop the bleeding and when he tries to grasp his hand, he flinches back, extremely afraid.
Trying desperately to help and calm Jayce, he tells him he has some basic First Aid training and can be of assistance. The strange thing is, he says he needs none of his help. When this happens, the boy seems to disappear in front of his eyes as if by magic alone, and Evan is left feeling empty, angry and useless. When he goes back inside the house, he notices Jayce is sleeping soundly over the white covers on the sofa, while Evan is confused about the male and how childish he seems, clutching his teddy bear so much. He shows feelings he thought he never would have for Jayce, and senses he has got used to being in the old house with its curious strange atmosphere, the quietness, Jayce and its interesting loneliness. Wanting to get close to him, Evan kisses him while he sleeps, undressing in front of him, he is intrigued by his own growing affection for the strange male, and intends to do more when Jayce refuses and leaves Evan wondering why. Going out for a smoke, he sees to his horror that his car has been vandalised. He spots the Priest from before and he wonders who might bear a grudge against him in this neighbourhood. Evan wonders too, thinking it could possibly be him as he gave him a stark warning to leave and not come to Roureville. He believes there is a reason why no one would want him there and wants to find out why. Going to the shop, he sees Jayce there, saying he was sorry to hear about his car being damaged in such a cold and heartless way, and Evan thinks he did it, but Jayce does not reveal a thing of whether he was involved or not. When a backgroundcheck has been done by the Police of one of the residents of Roureville, Evan discovers one of them is an armed robber and he unknowingly incites a fight. While the robber brandishes a deadly knife, Jayce stands in his way and something strange happens. Evan realises he has been stabbed and falls to the floor, passing out helpless while Jayce tries to wake him up. While Evan is unconscious, Jayce watches over him while he is in bed at his house, hearing him talking in his sleep. Evan dreams unusually of a lady holding her young child who is involved in dealings that appear more dangerous than realised. Who is the lady, her child and the mystery male she talks to in the dream? And what is the true mystery surrounding Jayce? More is about to be revealed in this rich story of a small village called Roureville, which is off the beaten track where the people who live there have some unusual secrets. IN SUMMARY: This second volume is eerie, strange and mysteriously captivating.
